The botanical ingredients have been naturally dried then tumble blended for less than two minutes to preserve their nutritional vitality and integrity. The cell walls of the chlorella are gently cracked to ensure optional absorption. The spirulina has been grown in Hawaii using deep well volcanic water.

Spirulina Algae (Arthrospira Platensis) - Kona, Hawaii, USA

Spirulina is a natural algae (cyanbacteria) that is incredibly high in protein and nutrients. Dr Schulze chooses to grow his in contained pools in Hawaii to prevent any contamination and to enable using the deep volcanic water in Hawaii for optimum growth and quality. It contains all essential amino acids, omega 3, 6 & 9 and is rich in anti-oxidant components.

Blue-Green Algae (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) - Hawaii, USA

Blue-green algae is rich in protein and all B vitamins (especially B6 & B12) plus 65 other vitamins, minerals and nutrients. These are all easily absorbed, in fact up to 97%, which relieves digestion of almost any activity. Many studies show that AFA provides robust defence against oxidative stress to cells and the depletion of enzymes that are beneficial to the body. All algaes are considered to be adaptogenic; that is a plant that helps the body adapt to protect against stressors.

Chlorella (Chlorella pyrenoidosa) - USA (grown in enclosed (toxin free) freshwater container)

Chlorella is a tiny single-celled freshwater algae. They are notably rich in chlorophyll, giving the bright green colour. Due to its high protein and B vitamin concentration, it was investigated after World War II as a possible food due to food shortages. Whilst in Japan it is an everyday food.

New and old research from Japan suggests it is effective in fighting major lifestyle diseases, reduce body-fat percentage and blood glucose levels. Tests have also shown that it naturally stimulates the growth of ‘friendly bacteria’ in the gut.

Barley Grass (Hordeum vulgare) - USA

Like the algaes and chlorella, barley grass is ‘nutrient dense,’ in other words it contains very concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals and phyto-nutrients. The ‘Grass’ is young juvenile leaves cropped at an optimum point in their growth cycle roughly 10cm high. Many worry about the grass being allied to the ‘grain’ and the allergies thereof but at the very young stage they are harvested they are devoid of gluten and are naturally high in chlorophyll, protein and phyto-nutrients, which decline as they progress towards their cereal stage, which increase inflammation and the pathogens is of many diseases. Barley grass acts in an opposite manner as a free radical scavenger that actively reduces inflammation. Its medicinal and food use values date back to 700 B.C. Wheat Grass (Triticum aestivum) - USA

It is very similar to Barley Grass (please read the above) except that it additionally contains P4D1, a ‘gluco-protein’ that can repair DNA and which acts like an anti-oxidant, reducing inflammation. (It absorbs free radicals, according to clinical studies.) Like Barley Grass it is harvested at the young leaf stage, called cotyledons at roughly 7-10 days of growth indoors and longer outdoors (depending on the weather). Crucially the grass is in one straight shoot and will not have formed any ‘joints’ yet.

Alfalfa Grass (Medicago sativa)- USA

The third useful ‘grass’ Alfalfa is very similar to Barley and Wheat grass. Like all grasses it has a high protein level which is if a type and size that can be absorbed directly into the bloodstream, where they promote cell metabolism. Like the other grasses, the presence of literally hundreds of enzymes helps the digestion and absorption of other nutrients we eat. Like Dr Schulze says, Superfood Plus is the building block for better assimilation and therefore better nutrition and Alfalfa plays its role along with all the other 13 ingredients in doing this.

 (Alfalfa was called the ‘father of all foods’ by Arabian Muslims who discovered it and; as a fodder crop it is also known as Lucerne.)

Purple Dulse Seaweed (Palmaria palmate) - Maine, USA

This deep-rose to reddish purple seaweed which is large, frondy and leathery can be found on the Northern coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. In Iceland it is a well known snack food due to its high protein levels and all trace elements needed by humans. Rich in dozens of vitamins, minerals and phyto-nutrients, omega 3 & 6, it is also rich in vitamin B12 and also high in protein. In fact “The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry” USA in June 1999 noted that ‘dulse may be a potential protein source in the human diet,” a fact already familiar to many in poverty and starving who lived near the beaches where it grew and who subsisted on this and other seaweeds in times gone by.

Acerola Cherry (Malpighia emarginata) - Florida, USA

This tropical sweet/sour fruit is rich in many beneficial components. It has the highly prized anthocyanins which help combat freed radicals and therefore issues arising from excessive inflammatory processes. It has, like other plants in Superfood Plus, high levels of B vitamins, especially B6 which not least, helps metabolize carbohydrates, protein and fats. It is of course a famous water-soluble source of vitamin C.

Like lots of plant synergy, Acerola works well with Alfalfa’s anti-oxidant activity. In fact, Superfood Plus works overall in this synergistic, team building fashion.

Rosehips (Rosa cannina, (Rosa rugosa) - Canada

Many studies and detailed research carried out in Germany and Denmark has centred around Arthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteo-arthritis, Heart Disease and Diabetes. It has many fascinating bio-chemistries to include fruit.

Palm Fruit (Washingtonia filifera) - California, USA

These are small hard, fatty fruits which come from the native Californian palm. They were routinely used as a food staple by native Indians in Southern California. Dr Schulze chose them for inclusion in his Superfood Plus formula due to their extremely high vitamin E levels, which are easily assimilated and utilized. Like all vitamin E, it stops the production of reactive oxygen and the degeneration of cells (free radical damage). It joins the dark green colours of spinach and beetroot leaves and the blue-green algae, also rich in vitamin E, within Superfood Plus.

Lemon & Orange Peels (Citrus limon and Citrus sinensis) - USA

These contain the health giving ‘polymethoxylated’ flavones which are the red/yellow pigments; which are anti-viral and help lower cholesterol. These have many beneficial properties including the limonene it is rich in; all activate the body’s anti-oxidant detoxification enzyme system, limiting cell derangement. Equally, it contains citric acid, hesperidin (potent flavonoid) and pectin. The pectin acts as a pre-biotic which encourages the growth of beneficial pro-biotic bacteria in the intestines. It’s hard to know where to stop with these citrus peel benefits which is why Dr Schulze chose to put them in his formula.

Beetroot and leaf & Spinach leaf (blend) (Beta vulgaris & Spinacia oleracea) - California, USA

Dr Schulze wanted to put this blend into Superfood Plus to focus on prime nutrition of the blood vessels. The blend generates and reactivates the red blood cells, supplying fresh oxygen to the body and building powerful, iron and nutrient rich blood. Beetroot, beet leaves and spinach leaves are rich in nitric oxide and a known ‘cardio-vascular’ aid and are also rich in anti-oxidants and prime vitamins and minerals.

Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Non-fermentable nutritional yeast - USA

Dr Schulze’s special formulation which is non-fermentable and perfectly safe with yeast issue sufferers and those on yeast free diets. Dr Schulze has grown this fungi on a mix of beetroots and pure molasses. It is extremely high in both protein and B vitamins. (Please remember it is entirely different to live yeast.) It is heated up high enough to destroy any yeast activity but not high enough to lessen the vitamin B content and many other nutritional qualities.
