Those who have their circadian rhythms put out, more often than those who do not work and sleep according to the natural rhythms of day and night. Their 24 hours divided between day time work and night time sleep are topsy-turvey and of course meal patterns will dramatically alter. These people are usually to be thanked immensely for their efforts to society and for the stress it puts their bodies under.
Working at night and sleeping by day (or trying to) creates all kinds of problems from cardiovascular stresses, low immunity, abnormally low or heightened body temperatures, low blood sugar, bowel problems, melatonin production difficulties – the list goes on and on.
Shift work does age the body more quickly because it demands much much more of the body as it tries hard and sometimes unsuccessfully to constantly normalize or ‘right’ itself.
